Michael is a retired Citigroup Managing Director who worked overseas more than 27 years in nine different countries.  His early roles were in corporate and investment banking in Africa (Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Tunisia), Russia, and Australia.  His later roles were in executive management in the Asia-Pacific region.  He served as Citi's country head for Indonesia, then head of corporate & investment banking in South Korea.  In the People's Republic of China he served as President of the China Guangfa Bank (a Citi affiliate), which operates in 43 cities across China.  During his last six years with Citi he served a Citi's country head for Singapore, and concurrently for the last four as the chief executive of the eight-country Citi ASEAN cluster in Southeast Asia.  

In May 2016 Michael retired from Citi, and he and his wife Betsy settled in Boulder, Colorado.  Michael now focuses on education and community service.  In addition to service on the Center for Asian Studies Advisory Council, Michael serves on the Board of Trustees of Case Western Reserve University, the Board of Governors of the International Community School of Addis Ababa, and the Board of Directors of WorldDenver.

Originally from Cincinnati, Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from CWRU and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.  Michael met his wife Betsy while both were serving in the Peace Corps in Kenya. They have four adult children, three daughters and a son.
